▶How is this calculated?
SIP Future Value is calculated using the compound interest formula applied to each monthly installment:
FV = P × [((1+r)^n - 1) / r] × (1+r)
Where P = monthly investment, r = monthly return rate, n = total months.
For Step-up SIP, the monthly investment increases by the step-up percentage at the start of each year, and the formula is applied year by year.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a SIP?▼
A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) allows you to invest a fixed amount regularly (usually monthly) in mutual funds. It helps build wealth over time through the power of compounding and rupee cost averaging.
What is Step-up SIP?▼
A Step-up SIP increases your monthly investment by a fixed percentage each year. For example, if you start with ₹10,000/month and set a 10% step-up, your SIP becomes ₹11,000 in year 2, ₹12,100 in year 3, and so on. This can significantly increase your final corpus.
What return rate should I use?▼
Historical long-term equity mutual fund returns in India have averaged 12–15% annually. For conservative estimates, use 10–12%. For debt funds, use 6–8%. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
Is SIP better than lump sum investment?▼
SIP reduces timing risk through rupee cost averaging — you buy more units when prices are low and fewer when high. Lump sum can outperform in a consistently rising market. The best approach depends on your cash flow and risk tolerance.
